Neck pain is discomfort in the cervical spine, the upper region that supports your head and connects it to your shoulders. It can stem from poor posture, injury, degenerative disc disease, pinched nerves, or muscle strain, and it often causes sharp, dull, or radiating sensations. Neck pain conditions commonly limit how far you can turn or tilt your head. For many people, this discomfort interferes with sleep, work, driving, and everyday movement. Here’s more information on neck pain treatment for chronic discomfort:

    Radiofrequency Nerve Ablation

Radiofrequency nerve ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that uses heat generated by radio waves to target specific nerves. This procedure aims to reduce pain signals traveling from the affected area to the brain. During the procedure, providers insert a thin electrode through a needle, usually with imaging guidance for precision, and position it close to the nerve. Radiofrequency energy then creates a small lesion on the nerve tissue.

Providers usually perform the procedure on an outpatient basis, and patients often return home the same day. This technique is often recommended for people who have already tried other neck pain treatment options with limited results. Candidates usually undergo diagnostic nerve blocks first to confirm which nerves contribute to their neck discomfort. A pain specialist evaluates each individual’s health and imaging history before recommending this option.

    Epidural Injections

Epidural injections deliver medication into the epidural space around the spinal cord and nerve roots in the neck; this space surrounds the spinal cord’s protective covering. Providers typically administer the injections with imaging guidance to improve placement accuracy. Providers may discuss these injections to address inflammation associated with certain conditions, but the recommended amount depends on individual circumstances. The medication used often includes a corticosteroid combined with a local anesthetic.

    PRP for Nerve Damage

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is derived from a sample of the patient’s own blood, drawn from the arm. The sample is processed to concentrate the blood’s platelets, which contain fundamental growth factors. The provider then prepares this concentrated solution for injection near the targeted area of the neck.

Because PRP comes from a patient’s own body, the preparation is tailored to the individual, lowering the risk of adverse effects. Research on PRP for nerve-related concerns is still evolving, and outcomes vary from person to person. A pain specialist assesses whether this approach fits within a broader management plan. As with other options, candidacy depends on a thorough evaluation. Some other health conditions that may benefit from regenerative therapies like PRP include:

    • Degenerative Disc Disease
    • Soft Tissue Injuries
    • Muscle and Tendon Tears
    • Repetitive Motion Injuries

    Get Timely Neck Pain Treatment

Neck pain can affect how you move, rest, and manage daily responsibilities, so addressing it early may support better function over time. A specialist can review your diagnostic results, explain the potential benefits and limitations, and help you choose approaches that fit your needs. If neck pain is affecting your quality of life, contact a pain management specialist today. A timely evaluation lets you explore appropriate options and develop a plan suited to your situation.
